Want to Lose Weight? Stay Away From Starvation Mode

The thing to know about starvation mode is that it is a way for your body to protect itself from what it percieves to be a threat. However if you really want to know how to lose weight, then you need to avoid getting into this situation.

Back in the day when we used to hang around in caves, food was pretty scarce. Gettiing food meant sometimes traveling long distances. Eating food on a regular basis wasn't always possible. To help us survive this, our bodies would slow down our metabolisms to conserve calories and energy.

It takes hundreds of thousands of years for evolution to work its magiic. Our bodies haven't really changed a great deal over the last few thousand years, so we basically have the same defence systems as we did thousands of years ago, including starvation mode.

Now this may have been helpful in the old days, but in today's world where there is food always available, it isn't so helpful. If we do not eat any food for a length of time then our bodies will start going into starvation mode. Even though you may be far from starving, Your body does not know this. Because you are not getting calories regularly, your metabolism will do what it is proggrammed to do.

Many weight loss programs advocate cutting large amounts of calories from your diet. This isn't beneficial to your attempts at weight loss. When you begin to cut out large amounts of calories, your body will go into starvation mode. This will not have a positive effect.

This is why overweight people who do not eat a lot of food cannot understand why they are not succeeding. This is the cause of the problem.

Most people on average will eat 3 meals a day. Your body can only digest and use a certain amount of food at any given time. So if you are eating 3 big meals, your body will use what it needs and store anything doesn't get expelled through waste. If the time between each meal is over 7 hours, the body will probably have kicked into starvation mode.

The key is to spread your calorie intake over 6 small meals. Now 2 things will happen. First there will be no extra calories for your body to hang onto. The other thing is that your metabolism will burn calories much faster as it doesn't need to store calories because they are arriving on a frequent basis. Just this small change will see you losing some weight.

You have probably heard this a million times but missing breakfast is the worst thing that you can do. Remember that you haven't eaten since the previous night. So in the morning your body is actually waking up needing a feed. If that food is not forthcoming then starvation mode will kick in.

So stop believing all the hype about how you need to cut out loads of calories from your diet to lose weight. Sure you will lose a bit of weight, but this situation will only go on for a short time. Eat small, eat frequently, and always have something for breakfast if you want to keep away from starvation mode and lose weight successfully
