Hoodia Basics
By HoodiaGuru | September 1, 2008
If you have not heard about Hoodia you have to have been living on another planet for the last few years! Hoodia has been widely discussed on the Internet, as well as in print magazines, and on television. And it is a hot new product in the weight loss section of any store. Obesity is growing in epic proportions in recent years and it leads to serious health problems. Everyone is looking for that magic product that will help those who are overweight to drop their calorie intake and lose weight. We gain weight when we consume more calories than our body burns. Reducing calorie intake, or doing more physical activity to burn your extra calories, allows your body to lose weight.
The diet pills that have been on the market in the last 10 years have used artificial stimulants to make our body burn hotter and consume more calories. Unfortunately, many of those products had side effects that were not discovered until some people became seriously ill because of the product. High blood pressure, heightened heart rate, and heart arrhythmia leading to heart attacks and strokes are some of the dangerous effects of these artificial stimulants.
Hoodia is not a synthetic product that can lead to serious health complications. It is made from a natural product found in the desert of South Africa. Hoodia it is not something brand-new. It has been around for thousands of years but has only recently come to the attention of the public. It was popularized by TV coverage it received on 60 Minutes, 20/20, and the Oprah show. It was also featured in many print magazines with dozens of testimonials. The San, Bushmen in the desert of South Africa ate the heart of the Hoodia plant before they left on long hunting trips. This would curb their appetites and their thirst without sapping their energy.
Hoodia works by suppressing the appetite naturally. It comes from a product that is grown in a natural environment and a plant that has been around for thousands of years! Hoodia fools your brain in to thinking you are full. If your mind thinks your stomach is full, it doesn’t send hunger pangs to remind you to eat. Feeling full and not having a need to eat allows some people to reduce their caloric intake by 1000 calories a day.
Although there are more than 13 different types of Hoodia, only one plant has been found to have the ingredient that suppresses hunger. The Hoodia gordonii plant contains a substance called p57. It leaves no aftertaste in your mouth, does not cause stomach upset or adverse reactions in the heart. A British drug company patented the extraction process and they have spent tons of money in researching the product. Hoodia can be found in most health food stores and through the Internet. It comes in various forms including pill, liquid, or powder form.
The one way to lose weight is to use more calories for fuel in your body than you are taking in. Hoodia helps you feel full without any artificial stimulation. Most people do not have side effects such as headaches, stomach disorders, and lack of energy, nausea, or high blood pressure if they take a Hoodia supplement. There are always exceptions; anyone pregnant, nursing or having any other health problems or taking medications, should talk to their doctor before taking Hoodia supplements.
