Why You Should Watch Out for MSG

MSG is an ingredient that has stealthily made its way into almost everything we eat. MSG or mono sodium glutamate is found in the foods we put in the pantry as well as the meals served in the fast food places, restaurants and diners that we patronize.

A research done at the University of Waterloo found that MSG increases the secretion of insulin by the pancreas resulting in the enhanced ability of the body to store more fat in the cells which in turn causes rapid weight gain leading to obesity.

It is then not surprising that obesity has become an epidemic in the United States. And the numbers of obese men, women and now even children, are steadily increasing. It is precisely for this reason that people are turning to weight loss solutions. Unfortunately, not all the options are acceptable. Many offer immediate weight loss but these often compromise the dieter’s health. Sadly, in spite of the risks, many people are still willing to choose such methods all in the name of aesthetics and social acceptance.

Nevertheless, no matter how serious we are in trying to lose weight through our chosen method, harmful or not, we still will not achieve our weight loss goals if we continue to consume large amounts of MSG. What makes the situation even more complicated is the fact that MSG is difficult to eliminate in our diets because it is present in most of the foods we serve at our very own dinner table everyday. Moreover, this element has been found to be addictive thus we ourselves already have the desire for foods that contain it.

We all occasionally indulge in our favorite foods. However, when this becomes a common thing and indulgence becomes overindulgence, eating has already become an addiction. This, in all likelihood, may be due to the fact that MSG can be traced in practically all the foods we eat everyday.

One way to solve this problem is to go on a diet. Unfortunately, the wrong diet, particularly any of those that leave a dieter feeling severely deprived, often results in cheating which in turn may also lead to more food cravings. The dieter ends up sabotaging his or her diet and worse, become fatter than ever.

Fortunately, there is a simple solution to this dilemma—switch to a healthy lifestyle. This means having regular exercise and following a sensible and doable diet plan. A high-fiber diet is not only highly-nutritious, but it also supports digestive health and cardiovascular health, it cleanses and detoxifies the system, and promotes better weight management.
