If you have been trying to get back into your skinny jeans post delivery but been having a hard time doing so, there may be a few things you are doing wrong. You should be aware that giving birth is traumatic on the body and need to give your body time to heal.

There are a number of mistakes that lead to failure in weight loss. The leading mistake is the fact that people set themselves up for immediate results. This is due to the notion that once a person begins making diet changes they should instantly begin losing weight. This is not true.

Unrealistic goals that are set will only be met with disappointment. When a person is disappointment they are more likely to quit. You may see yourself reducing the number of calories you eat, but you are more likely to overeat the next time you decide to go for a little cheat.

The bottom line is when you set high expectations that are often unrealistic you are just setting yourself up for failure. If you really want to thin out of your maternity wear you have to set realistic goals for your weight loss. In addition to setting your own goals, make sure you consult your personal doctor to ensure you are proceeding in a healthy manner.

Set yourself up for success by setting small, incremental weight loss goals. When you aim to lose up to ten percent of your starting weight, this is an achievable number. This will give you a realistic number to work with, as opposed to looking at all of the amount of weight you have to lose at once.

Losing between 1-2 pounds on a weekly time table should help you reach your goal steadily. This also helps you put your weight loss schedule in perspective. For instance, if you need to lose 30 pounds you should allow yourself around 3 months to do so. Exercising more and eating less (ideally both simultaneously) will speed up this process. You can aim to loss between 500-1000 calories on a daily basis.

Whenever you reach a small milestone make sure you celebrate it. Do not wait until you have completely reached your long term weight loss goal. Celebrate the small successes when you achieve them. For instance, celebrate each 5 pounds lost. This will remind you that you are doing a great job working toward your larger goal.

Keeping a health and fitness journal will help you get to your goals. When you are tracking your food intake you will hold yourself accountable. Before you know it, you will be tucking away those pregnancy clothes behind that portable space heater deep down in the basement.
