However, medicine recognizes glaucoma as one of the reasons for poor vision, so you can ask your optometrist in Flint for the symptoms of glaucoma.
How glaucoma develops
Glaucoma are those types of eye disorders that continually damage the optic nerves, changing the optic nerve head and the retina. Two theories have been advanced as to its cause: (1) the ‘mechanical’ theory which says that the inordinate stress of the aqueous humor sets off injury to the tissues of the optic nerve, while the (2) ‘vascular’ theory proposes that optic degradation is due to nerves decaying from low nourishment. A new third theory postulates that changes in the internal pressures of the eye orb injure the retinal and optic structure so that they turn to be more easily damaged. However, this third theory is up to now under close research.
Glaucoma determination Usually, when glaucoma is suspected, three tests are undertaken to reveal its presence. The first is optic disc assessment, which measures the optic discs relative to to a series of averages, so that difference from normal may be owed to the ailment. The second, is a visual field assessment, calculates how the eye perceives the difference between a backdrop color and the color of the item in the foreground. There are several subdivisions of eye defects classified under this method, correlated generally with [damage|injury} to the retina. Visual field assessment tests are normally repeatedwhen glaucoma is seen, just for precisionof diagnosis.
The third method is IOP test that measures the intraocular pressure inside the eye. This appears to be the least reliable among the tests inasmuch as measuring the IOP could not take into account every conceivable deviations in the corneal thickness, flexibility, curvature and other properties. Furthermore, there are recognizes differences among races in the structure of the eye, so the corneal variations may well be endless.
The effects of glaucoma
The effect of glaucoma on affected persons may be seen in their actions and mishaps. Patients tend to go slow because they cannot readily see what is in front of them, and consequently experience more accidents than normal. The continuous peering down to see what they step on lead to posture deformations. But, according to new statistics, vehicular accidents involving people with glaucoma are 50% lower than those without the disease. This is attributed to greater carefulness done by those who know] they have glaucoma, and the circumstances perilous for them. There are at all times positive and negative effects of everything.
